China's first self-developed heavy duty gas turbine ignited - Chinadaily.com.cn

China's first self-developed F-class 50 MW heavy-duty gas turbine was successfully ignited at a distributed energy station in Qingyuan, Guangdong province on Saturday, marking an important step towards its commercial operation, according to its manufacturer.

Produced by Dongfang Electric Corp, a Chengdu, Sichuan province-headquartered energy and electromechanical equipment system manufacturer, the turbine, with a capacity of 50 megawatts, signifies China's breakthrough in the heavy gas turbine field. Multiple Power Bank Station

Heavy-duty gas turbines are core equipment for power plants. The turbine, installed in Qingyuan, is expected to be connected to the grid within this month, said the centrally administered State-owned enterprise.

Compared with thermal power generator set, this heavy-duty gas turbine is able to reduce carbon emissions by over 500,000 metric tons a year. Once operational, it will produce more than 70 MWh of electricity per hour in a combined cycle power generation system, meeting the demands of 7,000 households for a whole day.

A project 13 years in the making for Dongfang Electric to design and build this machine, the turbine has more than 20,000 parts, which has involved hundreds of companies and research institutions to help design and manufacture. This shows that China has formed a supply chain of designing and building such turbine without using foreign technologies.
