Elon Musk's latest transportation endeavor The Boring Company may soon prove that a network of fast-moving underground tunnels to bypass traffic is more than just a pipe dream. On Wednesday the technology mogul announced on Twitter that the  Godot boring machine, which is named after the play "Waiting for Godot," completed drilling of the first underground tunnel segment. No longer waiting for Godot. It has begun boring and just completed the first segment of tunnel in LA.

Today he posted a short video clip previewing a soon-to-be functional skeleton of the car elevator pod that would be used to bring vehicles from street-level into the tunnel network and transport them on an electric rail using a skate-like platform at speeds up to 130 mph.

Cable Fitting Joint The Boring Company has been drilling a tunnel on the grounds of SpaceX to demonstrate the feasibility of this solution to Los Angeles' notorious traffic problems. However, the technology may be the easy part. Musk has bemoaned on Twitter that getting permits to drill beyond the company's property is more of a challenge than building the infrastructure.  The real feasibility test will be getting the city of LA to allow it.
